Police arrested a young man under the POCSO Act following an allegation of sexual harassment involving a minor girl near Kanai in Viluppuram District. According to the report, the incident was investigated by the local police following a complaint. The accused was subsequently arrested under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and further investigation is underway. Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Primary school teachers staged protests across several parts of Viluppuram District demanding action on a range of issues, including the restoration of the old pension scheme. The protest was part of a wider demonstration involving teachers from Viluppuram and Kallakurichi districts. District-level gymnastics and judo competitions were conducted in Viluppuram on Thursday as part of initiatives by the School Education Department to encourage sporting talent among students. The competitions were held at the Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School campus. Students participated in different age categories, including Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 groups. Around 800 participants took part in the competitions, demonstrating strong interest in sports and physical education across the district. Officials from the education and physical education departments were involved in conducting the events.
