The District Collector inspected sports arenas under the Master Plan Complex as part of an assessment of sports infrastructure in the district. The inspection focused on facilities and development associated with sports infrastructure and was part of the district administration’s continuing review of development works. The development of suitable sports facilities can provide athletes and young people with better opportunities for training and competition. Improved sports infrastructure is also expected to support the organisation of district-level events and encourage wider participation in athletics and other sporting disciplines. The inspection reflects the district administration’s attention to strengthening sports facilities and creating better opportunities for local athletes.

A sports competition was organised at the Government Law College in Viluppuram as part of an awareness initiative promoting a drug-free society. A large number of participants took part in the sporting activities organised as part of the programme. The event used sports as a platform to communicate the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and staying away from substance abuse. Sporting activities can play an important role in encouraging discipline, teamwork, physical fitness and positive engagement among young people. A head constable from Vellimedupettai Police Station has brought recognition to Viluppuram District by winning third place in a karate competition at the All India Police Sports Championships. The national-level police sports competition was held in Hyderabad, Telangana, from 21 to 30 July 2026. The Viluppuram police officer participated in the karate event and secured a medal through his performance. Following his achievement, the Viluppuram District Superintendent of Police presented him with a certificate and congratulated him for representing the district at the national level. The achievement highlights the importance of physical fitness and sporting participation among police personnel while bringing recognition to Viluppuram at a national sporting event.

Viluppuram hosted state-level youth athletics competitions, attracting more than 800 athletes who competed across various athletic events. The two-day sporting event provided young athletes with an important platform to demonstrate their speed, strength, endurance and technical abilities. The competitions brought together athletes from different areas and helped create greater opportunities for emerging sporting talent. Winners were presented with prizes and certificates in the presence of district officials and athletics representatives. District-level gymnastics and judo competitions were conducted in Viluppuram under the School Education Department, bringing together around 800 students from different schools. The competitions were held at the Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School campus.
